These terms describe the rules for using Chigau. By using Chigau, you agree to them. If you have questions, write to privacy@chigau.app.
Chigau is an AI-assisted Japanese sentence-correction service operated as an indie project based in Lithuania. In these Terms, “we,” “us,” and “Chigau” refer to the operator; “you” refers to the person using the service.
You need to be at least 13 years old to use Chigau (16 in the EU, or the age of digital consent where you live, whichever is higher). If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only use Chigau with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials safe and for everything that happens under your account. If you think your account has been accessed without your permission, email us and we will help you secure it.
You agree not to use Chigau to:
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules. Where the violation is serious, we may do so without prior notice.
You keep ownership of the sentences, messages, and other content you submit to Chigau. To run the service, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free license to store, process, transmit, and display that content solely to provide and improve Chigau for you. The license ends when you delete the content, except for routine backups that rotate out on their normal schedule.
Chigau uses third-party AI models to generate corrections, translations, and tutor-style answers. These models can be wrong, inconsistent, or miss nuance. The output is for language learning. Do not rely on it for legal, medical, safety-critical, or other high-stakes translation without independent verification by a qualified human.
Chigau is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do our best to keep it running, but we do not promise that it will always be available, error-free, or that any particular feature will stay around. We may add, change, or remove features at any time.
Chigau is currently free to use. If we introduce paid plans, we will update these Terms and the pricing on the website. Paid features will not start charging your existing account without your explicit opt-in.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. When you do, your personal data is purged from our live systems as described in our Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the service. If we discontinue the service entirely, we will give reasonable advance notice so you can export or delete your data.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Chigau and the people running it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses resulting from your use of the service.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim arose (which may be zero).
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under mandatory consumer protection laws that cannot be limited by contract.
When we update these Terms, we will change the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will notify account holders by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Chigau after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Lithuania, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service will be brought in the courts of Lithuania, unless mandatory law requires it to be brought elsewhere.
