Your Japanese is off.
Chigau reads what you wrote, points at what's off, and shows how a native would phrase it. With reasons.

彼は私に日本語を教えました教えてくれました。
彼に日本語を教えてもらいました。
教えてくれました adds the benefactive — the teaching was a favor done for you. Natives often go one further and tell the same story from the receiver's side: 教えてもらいました. Same fact, warmer angle.
You write. We polish.
Chigau corrects sentences you wrote yourself. The ones you formed in your head, even if they came out crooked. We point at the bit that's off, and tell you why a native would phrase it differently.
Three modes. One box.
Same sentence box. Different question to ask of it.
Your sentence, fixed in place. With a note explaining why.
English in, Japanese out, or the other way around. Pick the register, get the natural phrasing.
Stuck on a particle, a kanji, a nuance. Ask. Get a tutor-style answer in plain English.
Tap a word. Break it open.
Words in your correction are tappable when we have an entry for them. Meanings, conjugation, pitch accent, example sentences, audio.
No separate dictionary tab. It is just there.
Furigana, your way.
Everything on. Nothing on. Or only on the kanji you haven't learned yet.

Match the room.
Casual, polite, or formal. Pick a register and the same sentence gets retuned for whoever's reading it. A friend, an acquaintance, or the boss you're emailing.

The LINE message you're about to send.
It's grammatically fine. It just doesn't sound like a person. Paste it. We'll tell you what a native would have typed.

Will this work if my Japanese is still rough?
Especially if it's rough. That's literally the input we want. If you can write one sentence, you're in. N5 and up. The wonkier it lands, the more there is to point at.
How is this different from just asking ChatGPT?
Different tools, different jobs. ChatGPT rewrites and moves on. Chigau shows you what's off and why, with readings, meanings, and pitch on every word. Use both. If you pay for ChatGPT, you can plug it in here.
What's it going to cost me?
Nothing. We don't collect payments, and there's no card to put on file. When that changes, you'll get to decide whether to keep using it.
What happens to what I write?
It stays yours. We use it to show you the correction and nothing else. Not for training, not for resale.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Mobile is the whole point. Save it to your home screen and it behaves like a native app: its own icon, full screen, ready the moment you open it. Dark or light, it follows your phone.
Why "Chigau"?
違う means "different," or more honestly, wrong. It's what a native says when your sentence is off but they can't immediately tell you why. We named ourselves after that gap, between something's off and here's exactly what. It's the whole app.
